A certified refrigeration technician is a professional responsible for the installation, design, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning systems, ensuring their reliability, efficiency, and functional status.

Certification is important not only to guarantee technical competence but also to ensure that the professional operates in compliance with environmental and safety standards. Specific training includes the management of refrigerant fluids which, if released into the atmosphere, actively (and negatively) contribute to climate change.

The refrigeration technician is certified in accordance with the standards imposed by Regulation (EU) 517/2014, which regulates the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) within the European Union. This regulation aims to reduce the environmental impact of such gases commonly used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

A certified refrigeration technician must possess comprehensive know-how of the thermodynamic principles underlying the operation of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. These systems utilize the refrigeration cycle to transfer heat from one environment to another, using components such as compressors, condensers, and evaporators. Furthermore, the professional must be an expert in the management of refrigerant fluids, whose correct selection and use are essential for the efficient operation of systems and for minimizing ecological impact. Knowledge of mechanical components and the most advanced technologies is equally important. Modern systems, in fact, use complex and integrated systems that require advanced skills to ensure maximum performance and minimize energy consumption.
